Andrew Goldstein, MD received a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from Brown University and his medical degree from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York City in 1989. His fellowship training in Cardiothoracic Surgery was completed in 1998 at Yale University following General Surgery residency at the University of Rochester. During his training, he redesigned and patented what is now known as TandemHeart, a mechanical heart assist device, which has since been used in more than 1,500 patients worldwide. In 1998, Dr. Goldstein became an attending cardiothoracic surgeon and Assistant Professor of Surgery at Ohio State University Medical Center and Arthur James Cancer Hospital. He received numerous honors and performed the world’s first successful bridge to heart transplant with an implanted continuous flow ventricular assist device. He has published manuscripts on various topics in cardiothoracic surgery in peer reviewed medical journals and has served as a guest reviewer for the Annals of Thoracic Surgery – a leading publication in this field. Dr. Goldstein has given presentations at numerous national cardiovascular surgery forums throughout the United States including The Cleveland Clinic and the National Heart Lung and Blood Institute (a branch of the National Institutes of Health) in Washington, DC. Since moving his family to Arizona in 2001, Dr. Goldstein served as the Scottsdale Healthcare Cardiothoracic Surgery Chair for four years and earned Top Doctor accolades from Phoenix Magazine in 2006, 2008, 2009, 2010. In 2010, he also recieved the highest number of votes in the Thoracic Diseases specialty category. ![]() Dr. Goldstein has been named a Castle Connolly Top Doctor in Thoracic Surgery since 2005.
